🛑 CALL TO ACTION 🛑
The time for silence has passed. In recent weeks, we have witnessed shocking and unacceptable behavior from federal law enforcement agencies — including the unlawful detainment of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and the physically aggressive treatment of several members of Congress, among them our own Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman.
These incidents are not just disrespectful — they are dangerous. They reflect a broader erosion of civil liberties and the unchecked overreach of federal authorities. New Jersey must respond — and that starts with passing the Immigrant Trust Act (S-3672 / A-4987).
This critical legislation would:
Prevent local and state law enforcement from acting as an extension of ICE
Restrict warrantless collaboration with federal immigration enforcement
Reaffirm constitutional protections for all residents of New Jersey — regardless of immigration status
But right now, the bill is stalled in committee. It cannot move forward unless our state leadership acts.
We are calling on all West Windsor Democrats — and every New Jerseyan who believes in justice, dignity, and the rule of law — to speak out.
